El Segundo Modern Dentistry & Orthodontics

Let me start off by saying I can not say enough good things about this place. I had completely abandoned my teeth for almost 15 years due to personal issues and lack of good state provided health insurance. I was added to my husband's Blue of California plan and began making appointments immediatley. Without the insurance I would have probaly paid 9k, but instead I am paying 4k through a payment plan they provide - teeth aren't cheap, but we need them! Anyways, I have been going every single week to get work done and just finished all the major work today. What a relief! I have all fillings and onlays done and I feel like I have my smile back. The dentists and assiting dentists are incredible. After seeing them so often, I always feel comfortable going there. Unfortunatley, I have an OCD tick that makes me swallow non-stop when they're working on my teeth. They have been nothing but kind and understanding of the situation and allow me to take a break if I need too. When I did have a full blown ticking episode, I apologized profusely and they assured me everything was okay and that they understood. As someone who suffers from extreme anxiety and OCD, it feels so good to be assured and that they'll help me through it. Also, and importantly so, they never judged me for abandoning my teeth or having severe anxiety. They were there to help without judgement since day one. Lastly, scheduling with them is easy. They are pretty flexible when it comes to making an appointment. All in all, this place is great. The staff is incredible and you can tell its a positive work environment. They genuinely want to see you smile - a healthy smile! Thanks so much El Segundo Modern Dentistry. I know we've got one more cover to go, a nightguard, and whitening left to do - but so far you have given me a healthy mouth and confidence back in my smile after years of hiding and being self concious about it.

Very attentive and friendly staff. Manny the dental hygienist was especially personable and made me feel at ease, explaining the procedures I was having done thoroughly. They spent a lot of time and attention on me to ensure I was receiving the best care. I feel that they genuinely care for their patients and want them to get the best treatment possible. Highly recommend!

I wish I could give this place 0 stars. The office was incredibly dirty - scrapes all over the walls, dusty untouched medical equipment, leaky ceiling tiles, unclean tools and half-full cups of water left everywhere. Bedside manner was non existent - dentist/techs gave no introduction or even a simple hello and just started doing x rays. The tech was incompetent and left me alone in the x ray room with no instruction or telling me what I was doing. The equipment was shoddy and very disjointed. I waited 25 minutes for the doctor after the tech did a painful job of administering the x rays. Afterwards, the doctor looked in my mouth for 3 minutes and left. I was told I had to get braces (which I didn’t ask for plus I have straight teeth already) and that a cleaning (which is covered by my insurance) would cost 900$. I walked out after that. This place is a scam!!!! DO NOT COME HERE you will be mistreated. AVOID THIS PLACE DONT BELIEVE THE REVIEWS

If you value your time, don't go here. I had a routine cleaning scheduled, and sat in a room by myself for an hour before the doctor came in for 2 minutes, had his assistant try to sell me on orthodontics work, then moved me to another room and left me there for another 40 minutes before a hygienist came to clean my teeth. Edit: they do good work when they get around to it, but they clearly care more about their customers' wallets than they do about the customers themselves.

Definitely won’t be going back after how Dr Petcu decides to inject numbing medication into my 10 yr old without me being around and the only way I found out was because when I sat in my dental chair I heard my son crying and he opened his mouth I seen blood. That’s when I realized that’s what he did! My son was traumatized because the doctor didn’t even explain anything to him in kid language so that he knows what to feel, just told him to open his mouth and my son panicked when he knew something didn’t feel right. No one told me he just went in there and did it. He then tried to justify it by saying even in a pediatric dental office they do the same thing. That doesn’t make what you did right. My son didn’t want to move forward with getting a filling. I was upset and disrespected at the lack of compassion, and asking me if I told the assistants of my request, him asking them if I signed the consent forms as if that makes a difference, he also insulted my intelligence as if I didn’t know what happens during a filling procedure. I didn’t trust him. I gave 2 stars because his office manager was a good liaison in the situation and got him to realize that he needed to apologize for his wrong-doings and being accountable. What was more disturbing was that he even mentioned he’s a parent! So why couldn’t you understand where I was coming from?? It is all about business and money there. If him as a Dentist doesn’t know how to communicate or doesn’t want to communicate with patients then don’t work with patients. If you can’t build a rapport and provide education to make your patients trust you then take some classes and learn conflict resolution. I wanted him to complete the treatment on my son since he was already numb band I was able to calm him down and get him to be comfortable enough to do it, the dentist decided to not move forward because he didn’t know how to regroup from the situation but was able to continue with other patients. I hope they make some changes to this practice because I see their communication is not good when it comes to being in the office. That doctor relies heavy on his office manager and assistants but doesn’t want to be accountable for the decision he chose to make based off of just doing his job. This is exactly why people lose faith in the medical-dental system. They’re more worried about money and time then quality of care. He has one assistant in there that took her time to explain the procedure to my daughter and I appreciate her a lot for doing that. All in all…advocate for yourself and don’t let people just tell you anything and get away with it.
